  1. Bill,

Very interesting way to introduce the topic by utilizing interviews with others. I love the animated “Fred”. That was really neat. Your video did not present itself centered on the video screen and I could not get it to move over so I missed most of what was written on the right side of the screen.

Your video clearly communicated to me that learning content online is focused on actively engaging students online. Dr. Merrill spoke briefly about “motivation”, how do you motivate your students in your classroom to do the online work? I’m always looking for new ways to try and incorporate that into my curriculum. I have the added barrier that I teach grades 1-4 so what I do cannot be too high level and must be more “kid-friendly” as many parents, especially in 1st grade, do not allow their students online, let alone email or any other type of online communicative activities.

    Thank you for sharing.

    -Christine

  2. Bill,

Great job! I too was nervous and mine is much different than your video. I had so much noise I couldn't get rid of.

I love your animated "Fred". I teach first grade and I would love to use him working on phonic sounds. I think he will be great. Please let me know where "Fred" is from.

I have learned to use take video and add voice this course I am so excited about the potential of using some of these power tools in my classroom.

I'm not sure what your said near the end of Tammy because it quickly jumped to another. I had the same problem with mine. We need to remeber this is a first go. We are like infants with some of this technology and need to realize that and not be so hard on ourselves.

I liked the way you video taped different people. I wish I had been that innovative.Dr. Merrell mentioned that motivation comes from learning and doing something they haven't done before. I can't agree with him more. I have learned alot throught trial and error in this class. I also agree with his comment on learning a real world task being a motivator for students wanting to learn.

How do we convince others of this?

  3. Bill,
I enjoyed your animation sequence. The video is off center. I got lost three minutes into your video. I was not sure if your video was about collaboration or content. Your speaker appears out of no where without a proper introduction. Then you placed writing over his face, I would suggest in the future not to do this. I separate sequence with his suggestions would have worked much better. The writing seemed like an after thought. (This post is for the original video, any changes are not acounted for!)

  4. Hi Chris!

Thank you! Fred has received rave reviews. He has been offered the leading role in "Me and my Notebook"!
I'm glad you got the message. I had to re-post to make it fit better on "Blogger".
In some ways, that's a probelm with the age groups you teach. You could always project acceptable programs for the entire class, or demonstrate something helpful to them.
I taught grades 3-8 once. I give you credit for teaching those youngsters!:)

  5. Hi Lynne!

Thank you! I re-centered the video to make it fit. I got Fred (along with some other characters and gimmicks) with a Logitech Camera that I use in front of my computer. It interfaces really well with other programs. It "calibrates your mouth and face when you talk, and then tracks you when you record. Neat!
The end of the first "Tammy" scene got clipped somehow - the audio actually continues to say -"the other difference is no (other) students and no instructor" - then the next scene shows the online collaboration stuff. You're right. We need practice with these tools!
Yes, this has been a helpful class and Merrill has been around for a while.

  6. Bill,
I thought that your video was very entertaining. It kept my interest because you used people that the audience could relate to. Interviewing real-life educators really hits home and the animated announcer was great too!
